Why “The Way”?

Before they were called Christians, the first followers of Jesus were known simply as people of “the Way.”

Acts 9:2 · 19:9, 23 · 24:14, 22 · John 14:6

The translation

What sets The Way Bible apart

Word for word, with clarity

Faithful to the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek wording, grammar, and idiom. The text is smoothed only where a literal rendering would leave English readers unable to follow the meaning, and never padded or paraphrased.

Nothing smoothed over

Tensions, ambiguities, and wordplay in the original are kept, not adjusted to fit any theological system. Where Christians disagree on doctrine, the notes present the views fairly and let you weigh them.

Every divine voice in color

See at a glance who is speaking: God in blue, Jesus in red, and the Holy Spirit in purple, across both Testaments.

Old Testament echoes stand out

When the New Testament quotes the Old, the quotation is set in ALL CAPITALS, so you never miss where the apostles are drawing on Israel’s Scriptures.

“Messiah,” as first heard

The Greek Χριστός (Christos) is rendered “Messiah,” the royal title Jesus’ first hearers knew, with the Greek always shown so you can see the word behind it.

A careful textual foundation

The Old Testament follows the Masoretic Text, adopting Dead Sea Scrolls or Septuagint readings only under a strict three-point test. The New Testament follows the NA28/UBS5 critical text, with Majority Text and Textus Receptus differences noted.

MATTHEW

Chapter 02

The Magi from the East

1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magib from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star at its rising and have come to worship Him.” … 15 … to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.”

b · 2:1 — magi (μάγοι / magoi)

Tier 1 — Lexical Anchor: From an Old Persian word for a member of the Median and Persian priestly class. TWB keeps “magi”: “wise men” hides the priestly sense, while “magicians” adds a negative one Matthew does not intend.

Tier 2 — Canonical Mesh · Tier 3 — Historical Horizon continue in the full note

Sample from the TWB draft of Matthew 2.

Study notes

Three layers beneath every key word

Every major note follows the same three tiers, so you always know where you are: from the original word, across the whole Bible, back into the ancient world.

Lexical Anchor

The Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek word with its transliteration, grammar, root, and range of meaning, and why TWB chose the English it did.

Canonical Mesh

Linked cross-references tracing the same words, themes, and covenant threads through the whole of Scripture.

Historical Horizon

How the first readers heard it: Ancient Near Eastern background, Second Temple Jewish writings, the Greco-Roman world, and the biblical picture of God’s heavenly council.
